The application
What the application includes.
Horace Mann takes applications through the Ravenna Admissions Portal, and the complete file is due January 8, 2027.
- Entry grades
- New students enter mainly in Grade 6 (about 55 to 60 spaces), Grade 7 (10 to 15) and Grade 9 (40 to 45). For 2027-28, Grade 8 is also an entry point with about 5 new students.
- Grade 9 spaces
- About 40 to 45 spaces for new Grade 9 students each year.
- Steps
- Families apply through the Ravenna Admissions Portal. The school lists 11 steps: application and fee, interview and tour, essays and interests summary, the ISEE, teacher recommendations, report cards, transcript request, parent statement, an optional graded essay, financial aid materials if needed, and a final completeness check.
- Application fee
- The non-refundable application fee is $60. It is reduced to $0 for families applying for financial aid.
- Applications open
- Applications for the 2027-28 school year open August 5, 2026.
- Apply to the next grade
- Applicants apply to their next successive grade level, and the school may suggest repeating a grade.
- Report cards
- Upload the report card from two years ago and last year's report card through the portal by October 15, 2026. The school also asks for the current first marking period report card when it is available.
- Transcript request
- A Transcript Request Form goes to the current school. Grades or report cards from the prior two years and mid-year reports from the current year must arrive by January 8, 2027.
- Recommendations
- Families request two teacher recommendations through the portal, and at least one must come from a teacher who teaches the child this year. A school administrator, counselor or dean also completes a form. All are due January 8, 2027.
- Parent statement
- A parent statement is mandatory and must be received by January 8, 2027.
- Interview
- The interview is required. The application is not complete without it.
- What a complete file needs
- By January 8, 2027 the file needs admission assessment results, a completed interview, confidential school reports, the parent statement and the other required materials.
- Decisions
- The school typically notifies families of admission decisions in February 2027.
